Heritage is the root. Fruitfulness is the expression. Legacy is the seed.
Rooted in What God Has Given
Heritage Day is a time to remember, honour and reflect on what has been entrusted to us. But whenever Scripture calls us to remember, remembrance is often connected to responsibility, expectation and action. It is not simply an invitation to look back. It can also be an invitation to consider what we are called to carry forward.
For me, this reflection brings together two significant points in a journey. In 2016, Fruitfulness was established as a concept. In 2019, its spiritual context within the meaning of heritage was revealed. Today, these two ideas come together to provide a deeper perspective on God’s purpose and blessing for mankind.
We often think of heritage as what we receive:
Our name. Our values. Our faith. Our wisdom. Our opportunities. But perhaps heritage is not only something we inherit, perhaps it is something we are called to steward.
Think of a fruit tree.
It receives nourishment. It develops roots. It grows. It is pruned. It bears fruit. And within the fruit is seed, which is the potential for another generation. Our fruitfulness is not about earning God’s love but rather it is the expression of the life we have received.
So the question is not only:
“What have I inherited?”
But:
“What will my inheritance produce through me?”
- What will grow because I was planted?
- What will someone else receive because I lived?
- What wisdom, faith, courage, values or love will continue beyond me?
Heritage & Fruitfulness in the Light of Scripture teaches us about living fruitful lives.
Happy Heritage Day … Grow | Empower | Thrive.
